When they in the arrived in the Far West, the pioneers chose their plots of land, cleared and levelled them and built their homes with whatever raw materials they could find, notably timber and earth. In the vast prairie landscape, the farmsteads were remote and miles apart. The one-horse towns had just a few stores to cater to the needs of the pioneers. Gradually, other buildings appeared along the main street and the towns grew into larger communities. |

For love of history and beer Beer brewed by the monks of the
Prémontrés abbey Did you know that the
world-famous Leffe Beer was first made just a few miles away at
Prémontré. In
the Middle Ages, St Norbert came from Germany to found the first Abbey
of the Premonstratensians
order, better known as the White Friars. The village took its name from
the
order, which grew quickly, with other Abbeys springing up in Belgium,
notably Leffe
and Grimbergen. Because the water was unfit
for human consumption, the monks began to make beer. For centuries they
brewed
it following their own special recipe. The Etangs du Moulin invite
you to discover the secret in a delightful setting just a few miles
from the
mother Abbey. We have made a selection of the very best
Prémontrés beers. For
love of history, we named our bar "The Tongerlo". Tongerlo beer has
the picture of the Prémontrés abbey on its label
and its glasses...
